Md. Maidul Islam is a sociologist and academic activist whose work examines state power, political repression, and democratic struggle in Bangladesh and South Asia, with particular attention to memory, space, and temporal governance. He is an Associate Professor of Sociology at the University of Chittagong (on study leave) and a PhD student in Sociology at the University of Pittsburgh. Before his doctoral studies, he studied a bachelor’s and a master’s in Sociology at the University of Chittagong, Bangladesh, and an MPhil in Sociology at the Delhi School of Economics, University of Delhi. His work has been presented at international academic forums, contributing to debates on repression, dissent, and postcolonial state formation. His work is shaped by personal experience under authoritarian governance and struggles over freedom of expression and academic freedom in contemporary Bangladesh.
