BDI is formed by the Bangladeshis living in the USA with a view to helping the Bangladeshi people's efforts in improving their living conditions. Anybody who is a resident in North America and shares the goals and objectives of BDI can become a member of BDI. Under certain circumstances, BDI may grant honorary membership to any individual who has made significant and outstanding contributions in preserving the aims and objectives of this organization.

BDI is committed to supporting Bangladeshi people's voluntary efforts in improving their living conditions. In particular, BDI will:

  • Support policy research that can be fruitful in the formulation and implementation of national policies to ensure the availability of food, home, health care, clothes, education and transportation to the people of Bangladesh.
  • Support industrialization and acceleration of rural development of Bangladesh as a means to alleviating poverty.
  • Foster solidarity relationship with the people of North America so that development aspirations of the people of Bangladesh get rightful support and encouragement.
  • Initiate cultural exchange so that international understanding becomes easier between the people of Bangladesh and world community.
  • Publish books, pamphlets and research dissertations to enhance the above objectives.
  • Make the underprivileged classes, women and children the focus of all developmental efforts.
